Hi!
I’m James Bezerra. I’m a wildly unsuccessful writer and a very very slow nomad.
Currently I’m living on California’s cold but pretty central coast where I work in higher education. Before that I did an MFA in Portland and an MA at CSU Northridge. I’ve lived in Arizona and San Diego, Ventura very briefly. I almost lived in Connecticut there for a bit and also came thisclose to living in Las Vegas more than once. Before all that, I grew up in the dusty San Joaquin Valley of central California. My family was in the dairy-farming business so I knew cows by their first names and had my own dirt pile. Life has blown me around a bit since then and I’ve developed a temperament that enjoys it. Or maybe it’s the other way around.
I’ve been a writer my whole life, but I didn’t get to go to college right away. I did some other stuff like unload trucks for a living, move other people’s furniture all day, and manage the largest pet cemetery in southern California. I worked for “Dancing with the Stars” when I lived in LA and I met Billy Ray Cyrus one time! People tell me I should stop bragging about that, but I’m never gonna.
This website is my little online writing portfolio. I’m a writer still looking for a reader (and for an agent!). I write a little of everything. I’m an award-winning playwright, an award-winning short story writer, a produced screenwriter, and a published poet! I like to make weird little book projects and put them up on Amazon just for the pure joy of making weird things happen in the world. Obviously, I am a very fancy person. I’m the coastal elite your mother warned you about, except without any money, power, or influence.
I have no idea how you found this weird little website of mine, but I’m happy you did. Welcome. I hope you stick around.
